705 BROAD STREET, BOX 90502 · DURHAM, NC · 27708

Four visits, each with a fixed length and a written note.

A health consultation in Durham, NC at Duke & Mill is 45 minutes and starts from $70. A blood pressure check with pulse, height and weight is 30 minutes from $35. A family block is 60 minutes from $120 for up to four people, and a specialist introduction on nutrition, sleep or movement habits is 50 minutes from $85. Every rate is confirmed when you book and paid at the desk afterwards.

Duke & Mill sessions are not medical care and do not replace a doctor.

We do not diagnose, prescribe or see emergencies. If you are in pain right now, do not book. Call 911 or go to an emergency room.

First consultation

A first consultation is 45 minutes. You talk for most of it. A session lead asks questions in a set order, writes down your answers and reads them back to you before anything goes on paper.

This is the student health appointment in Durham that most of our visitors start with. It is a structured conversation, not an examination. The session lead works from the same history form every time: routine, sleep, food, what you take daily, what brought you in, and anything you would like to raise with your own doctor later. The form is the spine of the session. The conversation fills it in.

What the lead will not do is tell you what anything means. If you describe something that belongs with a doctor, the lead says so plainly, writes it at the top of the note under "take to your doctor" and moves on. That line exists on the note for a reason. Visitors tell us it is the part they actually use.

Measurements are not included. Add a baseline measurements session if you want numbers on the same visit. They are taken in the same room with the same lead, and they go onto the same note.

02 / Visit / numbers on a card

Baseline measurements

We take a blood pressure reading, a resting pulse, height and weight. We write the numbers down. We do not tell you what they mean. Your doctor does.

This is the blood pressure check in Durham for people who want the numbers on paper and nothing else. You sit for five minutes first, feet flat, back supported, arm resting at heart height on the table. The session lead fits an upper-arm cuff sized to your arm; we keep three sizes because the wrong cuff is the most common reason a reading taken somewhere else looks odd. Then two readings a minute apart, both written down.

Resting pulse is counted after the second reading. Height is taken without shoes against a wall-mounted measure, weight on a floor scale in light clothing. Everything goes onto a single record card with the date, the time of day and which arm was used, because those details are what a doctor asks for first.

Thirty minutes sounds long for four numbers. Most of it is the sitting still. We would rather give you a slow, quiet reading than a quick one in a busy room.

03 / Visit / one room, up to four people

Family visit block

The most common mistake is booking a family block for five. The room seats four, and that count includes the parent.

A family health visit in Durham, booked as one 60-minute block in our largest room. One session lead sees each person in turn using the short version of the history form, and writes one visit note per person. The order is agreed at the start. Younger visitors usually go first while they still have patience for it.

Sixty minutes across four people is about 13 minutes each once the introductions and notes are done. That is enough for a short structured conversation. It is not four first consultations. If one person in the family needs the full 45 minutes, book them a first consultation alongside the block and we will run them back to back in adjoining rooms.

Anyone under 18 has a parent or guardian in the room for their turn. Adults in the family can ask for the room to themselves for their part, and the others wait on the oak chairs outside. We ask that at the start, every time, so nobody has to raise it awkwardly.

04 / Visit / visiting specialists on a rota

Specialist introduction

Fifty minutes with one of three visiting specialists: nutrition habits, sleep habits or movement coaching. You book the subject; the rota decides the day.

Three specialists visit the rooms on a rota, one subject each. Nutrition coaching for Durham students, sleep habits coaching and movement coaching are all booked the same way and run the same way: a one-week paper diary before the session, then 50 minutes going through it together, column by column, and a written habits plan for the four weeks after.

The diary matters more than people think. We post or email a blank weekly sheet when you book. Fill in what you ate, when you slept or how you moved, honestly and in pencil. The specialist is not grading it. Visitors who arrive without it spend the first 20 minutes reconstructing a week from memory, which is a poor use of a paid slot.

Movement coaching has one extra rule. If a doctor has told you to limit activity, we need that doctor's written clearance before the session. Bring the letter; we keep a copy on file. Without it we rebook you, and we will not bend that for a signed waiver.

05 Pricing basis

What the guide rate depends on, and what moves it.

A guide rate is the starting figure for a standard slot. The front desk confirms the actual figure when you book, in writing if you asked by form. That figure is what you pay at the desk after the visit. It does not change in the room.

Three things move a rate above its starting figure. Adding measurements to another visit. Booking the family room for a longer block. Asking for a paper copy of a note to be posted. Nothing else does, and none of them are added without you agreeing on the phone or in the reply.

The semester health check-in plan is the one booking we quote instead of listing. Four check-ins at first-consultation length across one semester, the same session lead where the rota allows. The quote depends on the weeks you choose and whether measurements are added to any of them. It is never above four single consultations at the guide rate.

Payment is by card or cash at the desk. We do not take payment online, we do not hold card details, and we do not bill insurance. If you want to claim a visit back from a plan of your own, ask the desk for an itemised receipt.

Cancel more than 24 hours ahead and it costs nothing. Inside 24 hours, or late by more than 15 minutes, the first time is free and rebooked the same day. The full rules are in the visit terms.

06 Before you book

The questions the front desk answers most.

Is this a campus clinic in Durham?

People search for us that way, and we are near campus, but Duke & Mill sessions are not medical care and do not replace a doctor. We sell time in a quiet room with a trained person and a written note. For a diagnosis, a prescription or care for an ongoing condition, see your doctor or your university health service.

Which visit should I book first?

A first consultation, with measurements added if you want numbers on the same note. Specialist introductions work better once you have a visit note to bring along, though it is not required.

Can I bring someone with me?

One companion per visitor. For anyone under 18 a parent or guardian must be in the room. In the family room the limit is four people in total.

What happens if the session before mine runs over?

It does not run into yours. Every room has a 10-minute reset between bookings, and your slot starts on the minute. If we ever start you late through our own fault, the terms say what we do about it under the on-time rule.

Who are the session leads?

Four session staff and three visiting specialists, named by first name and role on the about page. We do not list titles or credentials for anyone.

Pick a visit. We send the time, the room and the rate.
